Iceland is calling

The ICEPO group in Iceland The last weeks have been very busy in Iceland. It is a lot to do in school and next week is the last of teaching before the exams. The group has met twice a week the last two months and has been gathering information about all things icelandic in preparation for the visit in March.
The days in Iceland are getting shorter, now we have daylight for only six hours. To lessen the effect of all the darkness Icelanders are very keen on decorating their houses early before christmas. In a weeks time the town will be an ocean of light to celebrate christmas and help people cope with the darkness. The shortest day of the year is December 21st and after that the day becomes a bit longer every day.
Today the group spent a few minutes in the library in the childrens corner for a foto oportunity. We wish our friends in Dębica all the best and we are looking forward meeting you in the new year (some of us are already counting the days ;-)

Saturday the 19th and Sunday the 20th of September

In the national park Þingvellir We met early at 8am on schools parking at Saturdays morning. Eyes swollen from tears of yesterday farawell party and feet tired from dancing didn't make it any better. We were hugging our ICEPO partners for the last time until March 2010. The last few moments together and we headed off to Keflavik visiting many interesting places on the way.

We saw geysers, and one of them ejecting, it was really exciting! We walked between two tectonic plates : Eurasian and North American (can I say I was in America now?). It was a real geography lesson. And last but not least, Blue Lagoon. Unfortunately we didn't have time to dip in the best- known hot springs around :(

We spent the night in a hotel near the airport. Our teachers deserve a medal for our late, but how delicious dinner ;). We had only a few hours of sleep. To get ready, eat breakfast and catch the plane we had to wake up at 4am! Without any problems during departure we left to Frankfurt. Everybody tried to sleep a bit to regenerate before 6 hours wait in Germany. One of the biggest airports indeed amazed us with its size and amount of different shops and caffes. Time passed faster than we thought and everybody hopped on Polish Airways aircraft to Cracow. Then we were just a few hours away from home. The time spent on the bus was all about Iceland trip memories.  At around 11 pm we arrived at schools parking to see our families and friends waiting to pick us up.

It was nice to be back home, but we miss our Icelandic friends already. We won't meet up before March 2010 :( Until then stay here, on icepo.fas.is, to check the incomming gallery full of pictures captured on many different cameras. See you in Poland!)
